ROSACEA

posted 8th June 2024
Reddening of the face and flushing along with pustules, are typical symptoms of Rosacea that many people are familiar with. There is no denying how distressing and demoralising Rosacea/Acne Rosacea can be.
What if you have tried all the common suggestions but still suffering?
The usual advice is to avoid the following:
- Spicy foods
- Alcohol
- Hot drinks such as Tea & coffee
- Sunlight
- Intense exercise
- Processed meats
- Fried foods
- Cheese
- Chocolate
- Nuts, eggs and citrus fruit.
Reducing what is a chronic skin condition is very important, and one way this can be achieved is diet and appropriate vitamins/minerals. Vegetable oils promote inflammation so ensuring you have Omega 3 fish oils and decreasing your intake of pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids is important. Sugar/artificial sweeteners are inflammatory as are refined grains/whole grains, peanuts and factory farmed meat/dairy. Factory farmed dairy is one of the most highly inflammatory foods.
Remember too, that insulin spikes increase inflammatory markers so try to eat foods that are low glycaemic. Take into account histamines and salicylate foods as these can be triggers for a number of people.
Exposure to pesticides and herbicides can affect hormones and promote hormonal imbalances so choose organic foods where possible. Look at stomach acid levels which I always find a very significant factor and also gut dysbiosis/pathogens/microbiome – ‘gut-skin axis.’ Try to reduce stress as much as you possibly can as stress and anxiety will also affect the gut/skin. In many cases I see, people are using topical creams/face products that are supposed to be helpful but are exacerbating the problem.
Finally, conquering Rosacea need not be too complicated, and in many cases the avoidance of certain trigger foods, vitamin and mineral supplementation to include probiotics and using the correct topical face products, can be all that is needed to combat what can be a very exasperating and demoralising skin condition.
