If you are struggling with eczema, dry skin or ongoing skin flare-ups, this can be exasperating. As a Nutritional Therapist in Surrey specialising in gut health and skin conditions, I help identify the root causes of eczema so your skin can heal from within.
What Causes Eczema?
Eczema can be triggered by a range of underlying factors, including:
- food intolerances
- inflammation
- environmental triggers
- gut health imbalances
- chronic inflammation
- nutrient deficiencies
How I Support Eczema Clients
- personalised plans
- identifying triggers
- gut healing
The Gut–Skin Connection
Many people with eczema and skin conditions also experience digestive issues such as bloating, food intolerances or IBS. There is a strong connection between gut health and skin conditions, often referred to as the gut–skin axis.
When the gut is imbalanced, it can contribute to inflammation, which may show up through the skin. Supporting gut health is therefore a key part of improving eczema naturally.
Client Success Story
I was told by an esteemed skin specialist “there is no cure for eczema…it is in your genes…and there is nothing you can do about it!” Fortunately, I knew otherwise, but what about the thousands of people that believe such a statement, and just keep applying steroidal creams, without ever getting to the root cause?
I have seen many eczema patients over the years, some of which were chronic, and I have seen it vanish without the use of steroids. Eczema is a very distressing condition, not only for the sufferer, but for the mother or parent that has to deal with it, knowing their child is not happy.
What prompted me to write this is my case with an 8-month baby, who was covered from head to toe in eczema, including her face. This has always been treated with steroidal cream. She also suffered continuous nappy rash, diarrhoea, and was not developing for her age, as well as not being happy or comfortable in herself.
She was prescribed a particular milk formula for babies that may not be able to tolerate cows milk. However, this formula, as I suspected, was making the problem worse. I recommended another formula for 3 days, and if she improved, then to consult her doctor as to whether she could continue.
Four days later I was told the eczema was clearing up quickly, the nappy rash had gone together with the diarrhoea, which had now turned into normal stools. Also, she was much happier in herself.
Why Identifying The Root Cause Matters
I agree with Dr. Bernard Jensen, author of ‘Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management’….’we don’t catch eczema, hayfever and asthma…these conditions are often influenced by internal factors…’ We are all individuals, and whilst eczema may vanish from one person when an offending food, or substance is withdrawn, this will not necessarily follow for everyone – it can be a different food or irritant, gut-related or indeed many other factors.
There is a whole list of common food allergens that relate to eczema and dermatitis but depending on the individual person. Many times I have seen cases where the cause has not been one of the common foods, but a less common one or another trigger. Also, of course, washing powders/fabric conditioners need looking at as these can be irritants too.
In my experience, it is also often the foods we are told that are good for us, that are at the root cause of these diseases, because these are often consumed in the greatest quantities, so can become a problem over time. Some of these foods can also be highly allergenic. Mineral deficiency is another factor that is related to eczema, so in this particular case I recommended vitamin/mineral drops (hypoallergenic), for babies.
If you suffer, acne, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, hives/urticaria or other various skins conditions, your body is trying to tell you something – your body is under internal stress. Something is going on inside, and more often than not it is what you are feeding yourself…..
